  there has been some interest recently about the moyle case, and how it may have set a precident in what became the society's disfellowshipping policy.

  in july 1939, the chief legal counsel of the watchtower bible & tract society, olin r. moyle, resigned from his position in a protest over conditions at bethel and rutherford's mistreatment of workers.

  he did not want to continue living under those conditions and he felt he could effect positive change for his brothers by taking such a stand.

  This unfolding drama is fascinating and entertaining. The wonder is how we are encouraged to look backward with rose coloured glasses. It makes you laugh to read how the society quote the frankness of the bible as being evidence of its authenticity whilst brushing all this under the carpet.

  They mock the way others rewrite history to eliminate the negative. The WT is an expert at putting the facts into the washing machine with plenty of detergent, rinsing and spinning until every thing smells like new mown grass.

  Thank you for letting the real stink of ordure into the atmosphere. It may not smell good but it is honest and has the ring of truth.

  i know 99% of the posts here are for exposing wt doctrines and fallacies ,but there was a time that we really believed that we had full bible understanting .i know now that this is the case ,but why can't we use that as a starting point rather than the end of the road ?

  why can't we be more like the jews of john the baptist's day that acknoledged their errors and started over again by whiping the slater clean and getting baptised in expectation of the messiah's coming ?.

  I can increasingly understand those who attend cosy Church of England services. They enjoy some good old hymns, a bit of thought provoking stuff about current events all in a lovely building of mellow stone. There is no requirement to have any strong belief in anything (the vicar probably tends towards atheism). Then off to the pub and home for your roast beef and yorkshire pudding.

  Why spoil things with idealism and preaching, the whole thing is a nod to tradition, some fine values and if you are lucky good friends and business contacts. The whole thing is nothing to do with reality but the traditions of our fathers have kept society in some sort of shape since the mists of time. I am not being ironic here, i'm just saying that societal traditions have some value. Just don't get excited and think you have some great throbbing, burning message you could describe as the all embracing, absolute TRUTH.

  This is excellent stuff. Franz was always a wild card responsible for the 1975 debacle but was also the most prolific thinker in the organisation ever. Here he speaks sense , I wonder what the present bunch of duffers would say to argue their way out of this one?

  Make Them Prove That You Were Baptized!

  this might not work for everyone, but it might for some.. if a person faces disfellowshipping, the person should make the elders prove that they are baptized!.

  as far as i know, baptism records are not sent to bethel.. without two witnesses to the event (and the witnesses have to remember seeing the person immersed), and no photos, there would be no proof.. if someone did this, the elders would of course contact bethel for instructions, but what could they do?.

  it would put a stop to the elders proceeding with any action..

  I was about 10 years old, even I can't remember it. I certainly could not tell you the date. There was no vow of allegience to the society or organisation. There was no ban on tobacco then either.

She was shaken to the roots. I had to stop because I couldn't read aloud anymore, it felt personal. I then had to go and be the WT reader. What drivel.

  Anyway, I have just loved the European come back in the Ryder cup. I can't imagine what it must be like to be on the wrong end of that. Sport at its very best. But RIP Oompah, I would love to think you enjoyed it.

  new here, my story

  i'm not sure why i felt a need to find this site and write my story about my experiences with the jw religion.

  it's been pretty far in my past, but it still had an impact, and maybe i'm just being a bit reflective, having past 40 years of age and expecting my 2nd child next year.

  maybe also being reflective having just attended a catholic babtism for my wife's cousin's daughter and seeing organized religion in action again.. my mom became a jw long before i was born - she's in her 80's now.

  Phew! If you think WT is controlling now pity the poor sods that were under that barrage in 1943. Work your personal local territory (assigned to be nearest your house) four times in six months or you are showing unfaithfulness to God. This instruction is from God directly through the Society who is his mouth peace. This is not an ultimatum, of course not but if you don't do it you are against God and his kingdom. No pressure then?

  The one thing that surprises me as a factor clipping their wings is that they abandoned hell-fire as the sanction for disobedience. No wonder they had to come up with shunning a few years later, they had to invent a living hell as punishment.

  Does any thing seem familiar? Do you think any religious organisation fits this description?

  I hasten to declare that being a Britt I don't want to comment on US politics but simply the fact that the script writers for this show seem to have been studying WT literature.
